LA JOLLA, Calif. – Kendall Baker of the University of California San Diego softball team was named an Academic All-District 8 selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. The award recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Baker, a junior utility from Berthoud, Colorado, holds a 3.84 GPA as a human development major in UC San Diego's Marshall College.

On the field, Baker led UCSD with 66 hits, three triples and 186 at bats. This season, she started all 52 games with a .355 batting average and 11 RBI. Baker is second all-time in single season stolen bases after swiping 36 this year. Her 43 runs in 2017 put her fifth all-time for a single season. Splitting time in the outfield and playing second base, she tallied 119 putouts and 38 assists.

One of 11 District 8 selections from NCAA Division II schools, Baker will now be placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The 2017 awardees will be announced on May 24. This is the first CoSIDA Academic All-District award for Baker.

The Tritons finished the regular season 30-22 overall and 21-19 in the CCAA. UCSD is 10th in the most recent NCAA West Region poll, and needs to be in the top eight come NCAA selection time on Monday, May 8 to advance to the NCAA Regional Championships.
