FOUR TRITONS NAMED TO NFCA ALL-REGION TEAMS
Wednesday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its all-region teams and four Tritons were recognized. Designated player Sherriah Harrington was named to the NFCA All-West Region First Team, while catcher Bobbi Aguirre, outfielder Kelsi Maday, and pitcher Robyn Wampler were selected to the second team. Read the entire press release here.

MADAY CCAA MVP, WAMPLER FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Kelsey Maday was named the CCAA Most Valuable Player and Robyn Wampler earned CCAA Freshman of the Year honors as the league announced its annual awards on May 4. Joining Maday and Wampler on the All-CCAA First Team were Sherriah Harrington and Maddy Lewis. Bobbi Aguirre was named to the second team. Read the entire press release here.

THIRTY PLUS
This season marks the 13th time that the Tritons have won at least 30 games under head coach Patti Gerckens, who took over the team in 1993. It's the sixth time that a Gerkens' squad has posted 35 or more victories. UC San Diego posted back-to-back 45-win seasons in 2011 and 2012, the most wins in a single campaign in program history.

WAMPLER IS A SAN DIEGO HALL OF CHAMPIONS STAR OF THE MONTH
Pitcher Robyn Wampler was named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for April. Wampler went 7-2 and earned three saves while posting a stellar 1.31 ERA during the month. The freshman left-hander struck out 70 batters over 64.1 innings of work. She fanned a career-high 12 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and followed that with a 10-strikeout performance the next day against the Toros. She also struck out 10 at Cal State San Bernardino earlier in the month. Wampler was named the CCAA Pitcher of the Week for three straight weeks in April. Read the entire press release here.

WHO'S BACK?
UC San Diego is coming off a 30-22 overall mark in 2017 and a sixth-place finish in the CCAA standings with a 21-19 record. The Tritons concluded conference play winning seven of their last eight games. UC San Diego welcomes back two all-conference selections in seniors Kelsi Maday and Kendall Baker.

Maday was a first-team All-CCAA honoree for the second-consecutive season, while also garnering All-West Region honors from the NFCA as well as the Conference Commissioners Association (CCA). The senior started all 52 games in the outfield in 2017, finishing the season batting .395 with 13 doubles and 42 stolen bases. In addition, Maday led the Tritons with 44 runs scored, 37 RBI and a .468 on-base percentage. The Napa native has already set UC San Diego's single-season record for stolen bases in a season (42) and for a career (94).

Baker was named to the All-CCAA second team in 2017 for the second-straight season, as she led UC San Diego with 66 hits and three triples. A native of Berthoud, Colo., Baker finished second on the team behind Maday with 36 stolen bases, which ranks second all-time for the program in a single season. In addition, the second baseman/outfielder led the Tritons with 43 runs scored, putting her fifth all-time for a single season. Baker was also an Academic All-District 8 selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

HEAD COACH PATTI GERCKENS
Patti Gerckens is in her 26th season in charge of the UC San Diego softball team. Entering the year, Gerckens holds a 685-567 (.547) overall record. The winningest head coach in program history, Gerckens led the Tritons to back-to-back, school-record 45-win seasons and appearances in the Division II championship game during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, the first of which brought UC San Diego its inaugural softball title in 2011.
