Kendall Baker, Maddy Lewis Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team Distinction
LA JOLLA, Calif. - Kendall Baker and Maddy Lewis from the University of California San Diego softball team were named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 as the association announced its 2018 honorees Thursday morning.
A senior second baseman, Baker leads UC San Diego in runs scored (39), triples (2), and sacrifice bunts (10), and is second on the team with 24 stolen bases. Baker is the only Triton to have played in all 52 of the team's games. During the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season, she ranked third in steals (20), fourth in runs (31) and sac bunts (9), and sixth in triples (2) among all league players.
Baker holds a 3.84 GPA as a Human Development major in UC San Diego's Marshall College.
As a junior in 2017, Baker was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honoree.
Lewis, a junior infielder, was recently named an All-CCAA First Team performer. She is batting .383 over 47 games and leads the Tritons in doubles (10), triples (2), walks (25), and on base percentage (.481). In the CCAA, Lewis ranked first in on base percentage (.500), third in batting average (.393), fifth in doubles (10), sixth in triples (2), seventh in walks (20), and ninth in runs (27).
Lewis owns a 3.83 GPA as a Communication major at Sixth College.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least a 3.30 GPA, be an important starter or reserve, and be of at least sophomore standing with one full season played at their institution.
First team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with those winners to be announced in June.
Fifth-seeded UC San Diego (35-17) opens NCAA West Regional play against fourth-seeded California Baptist (33-10) on Thursday at noon at Chico State.
