Robyn Wampler Garners NFCA All-West Region Second Team Honors
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Robyn Wampler of the No. 14 University of California San Diego softball team has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-West Region Second Team. This is the second consecutive year that Wampler has earned the NFCA’s All-West Region Second Team honors.
Wampler has been a force to be reckoned with in the pitcher’s circle during her sophomore season. The Berkeley native’s 1.67 ERA leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), and her five saves top the conference leaderboard as well. In fact, Wampler ranks near the top of the conference in most pitching categories. Her wins (18), strikeouts (139), innings pitched (180.2), complete games (19), and opposing batting average (.205) all rank in the top three in the CCAA.
Wampler has stifled opposing hitters. Not only has she held opposing batters to a .205 average, but she has recorded a .198 opposing batting average in conference action. Wampler’s dominance was best exhibited when she twirled a no-hitter at Cal State San Marcos on April 19. Racking up nine strikeouts, the lefty held the Cougars scoreless and hitless without surrendering a walk.
The UC San Diego ace has already garnered numerous accolades for her performance this season. Yesterday, Wampler was named to the D2CCA All-West Region First Team. She also earned four CCAA Pitcher of the Week accolades throughout the year, the most of any pitcher in the conference. Prior to the season, Wampler was named to the NFCA’s Player of the Year Watch List and the Fastpitch News Preseason All-America Second Team.
Wampler looks to continue excelling in the pitcher’s circle as the Tritons host the NCAA West Sub-Regional. UC San Diego will face Central Washington today at 2 p.m. (moved from 1 p.m. due to morning rain), with Sonoma State and Chico State facing off at approximately 4:30 p.m.
