Softball Recognized as NFCA All-Academic Team, Nine Players Granted NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of California San Diego softball team received National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic Team recognition with nine individuals earning All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2018-19 academic year. The association announced the news Wednesday afternoon, rewarding student-athletes who acquire a 3.5 GPA or higher over the course of the entire year. 

The nine players awarded were utility player Danica Kazakoff, infielder Isabel Lavrov, infielder Maddy Lewis, infielder Brittney Ross-Smith, outfielder Mikaila Reyes, outfielder Danielle Stedman, catcher Kinley Kyro, pitcher Robyn Wampler and pitcher Brittney Baisden. This marks the largest Triton softball group honored since 2014. In addition, all nine players earned 2018-19 CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) All-Academic Honors.

It was the fourth-consecutive distinction for Lewis and the third-consecutive distinction for Reyes. Both were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team as well.

The Tritons collectively recorded a team GPA of 3.30.

In one of UC San Diego’s most successful seasons, the 2019 Tritons went 37-17 overall, capturing a regular season CCAA Championship title with a conference record of 24-9. In addition to winning the NCAA DII West Regional Tournament, the Tritons clinched the NCAA DII Softball Championship for the third time in program history.
