VALLEJO, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's golf team is tied for sixth after two rounds Thursday at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club.
The Tritons shot 611, 43-over par, after carding a 310 in the opening round and improving by nine strokes with a 301 in the second.
Individually, Mateusz Kucz is UCSD's top golfer, tied for 18th with a 7-over 149. Kucz shot a 2-over 73 in the early round and a 76 to close out his day.
The host Pioneers are leading the 10-team field with a 561, 7-under par. All five of East Bay's team players are currently in the top 10, including Owen Hutchinson, who leads the 66-competitor field with a 6-under 136. He shot 68 in both rounds.
"As a team, we played very inconsistently and had a poor opening round," said UCSD head coach Jim Ragan. "We played somewhat better in the second round and had some guys make a few birdies, which was a move in the right direction."
Hui made eight birdies on the day, while Kressinger-Dunn eagled the par-5 16th in round two.
The third and final round tees off at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Action can be followed via live scoring.
