CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's golf team finished ninth at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships Tuesday at Industry Hills outside of Los Angeles.
UCSD finished with a 54-hole total of 931, 79-over par on the par-71, 6826-yard Zaharias Course (The Babe). The Tritons carded a 311 Tuesday to go along with Monday rounds of 302 and 318.
Mateusz Kucz finished in a tie for 20th as UC San Diego's top golfer. The junior shot 74-76-76 for a +13 226. Freshman Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) also placed in the top 30, tying for 29th with a 229, 16 over par. He shot 76 Tuesday to add to a 74 and a 79 on Monday.
The individual medalist and CCAA individual champion was Chico State's Kelley Sullivan, who posted a 214 (+1) over the three rounds to finish atop the 45-golfer field. Sullivan went 70-69-75 to finish one stroke ahead of second-place Matthew Hedges from Cal State Monterey Bay.
Just four strokes separated first place from fifth place.
Following three rounds of stroke play, Chico State (291-290-302--883) was in first place. Stanislaus State (292-298-294--884) was second, Cal State East Bay (300-292-298--890) was third, and Cal State Monterey Bay (306-294-292--892) was fourth.
Chico will now take on Monterey Bay, while Stanislaus and East Bay will face off in medal/match play semifinals Tuesday afternoon. The winners go head-to-head in a medal/match play final on Wednesday to determine the CCAA team champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division II Championships.
Cal State East Bay won its first-ever league title in 2016.
