Tritons Tied for Third After 36 Holes at CSUSM Fujikura Invitational
VISTA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's golf team is tied for third of 16 squads following the first day of action at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club.
Over Monday's two rounds, UC San Diego totaled a 591 (+15), shooting a 298 and following with a 293. The Tritons' 293 in the second round was the second-lowest behind Chico State's 287.
UCSD was in seventh place after the opening round.
Individually, UCSD has three players in the top 15, all of them sophomores. Hayden Hui sits in 10th with a 146 (+2) after firing 74-72 on the par-72 course. Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) is tied for 11th with a 147 (+3), while Jacob Johnson is tied for 14th with a 149 (+5). Johnson's second-round 71 was the best single round of the day for UC San Diego.
Chico State, ranked 11th nationally, leads with a 577 (+1). Host CSUSM is three strokes behind with a 580 (+4) and No. 8 Cal State Monterey Bay is tied with UCSD for third.
Chris Tuulik of Cal State San Marcos is in front of the 80-player field after carding a 136 (-8). Monterey Bay's Elis Svard (138) is second and Chico's Josh McCollum (141) is third.
Five players are currently under par with the Shadowridge layout playing to an average score of 76.89 Monday.
The tourney's third and final round gets underway Tuesday at 8 a.m. Action can be followed with live scoring.
