Gross shot rounds of 70 (-2) and 74 (+2) for a 144 on the par-72, 6,561-yard course in northwest Washington. The Los Angeles native is playing as an individual and does not figure into UC San Diego's team scoring.

The Tritons, who are playing in their third tournament in the last week, carded rounds of 306 and 305 for a 611, 35-over par.

"Today was a disappointment for the team," said UC San Diego head coach Jim Ragan. "We need to bounce back and put together a good round tomorrow."

Junior Hayden Hui is tied for 35th with a 149 (+5) after logging rounds of 74 and 75. He has been UC San Diego's top finisher in the team's first two events of the season.
