VISTA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's golf team is in the hunt at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational, which saw play suspended mid-way through Monday's second round due to rain.

Following a full round of 18 holes at Shadowridge Golf Club, UC San Diego is officially in seventh place among the 15-team field. After getting through between eight and 10 holes of the second round, the Tritons were surging and ended the day unofficially atop the leaderboard.

The remainder of the second round will be played Tuesday starting at 9 a.m. The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, has been shortened to 36 holes.

UC San Diego shot a 300 (+12) in the opening round, eight strokes behind first-place Cal State San Marcos (292, +4). Ninth-ranked Oklahoma Christian (295, +7) is second, while No. 8 Chico State (296, +8) and Cal State Monterey Bay (296, +8) are tied for third.

Juniors Hayden Hui and Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) are tied for 15th, each firing a two-over par 74. Junior Justin Woo (75, +3) is tied for 24th, freshman Elliot Bunyaviroch (77, +5) is tied for 40th, and sophomore Ryan Vaughan (78, +6) is tied for 49th.

Junior Jacob Johnson (83, +11) is playing as an individual and is tied for 74th.

"I'm really pleased with the progress of the team," said UC San Diego Interim Head Coach Fred Hanover, who is coaching his first tournament with the Tritons. "The players work extremely hard at their games and their fitness and that preparation will lead to success this spring."

Sonoma State's Devin Gregg is the current leader, the lone player under par with a 71. Eight players are tied for second, all shooting an even-par 72.

The Shadowridge course is playing at 7,008 yards.

Tuesday's action at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational can be followed with live scoring.
