INDIANAPOLIS - The University of California San Diego men's golf team learned Friday that its season will continue as the NCAA announced the qualifiers for regionals.

The Tritons will be in the 20-team NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional, which will be held May 9-11 at The Ledges in St. George, Utah. Dixie State is hosting the tournament.

"I am so proud of our team for achieving this," said UC San Diego coach Fred Hanover. "Their hard work and commitment are paying off. We are hoping this is the first step in achieving excellence this season."

UC San Diego is one of 80 teams selected from across the country to compete at one of four regionals. In addition, 32 individuals not on a qualifying team will be playing. At a minimum, three teams and two individuals not on a team from each regional advance to the NCAA Championships May 20-24 at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.

This is UC San Diego's first NCAA regional appearance since 2014 when it placed 16th at Grey Rock in Austin, Texas.

The West Region field consists of three automatic qualifiers along with seven at-large selections. Cal State Monterey Bay (California Collegiate Athletic Association), Holy Names (Pacific West), and Western Washington (Great Northwest Athletic Conference) won their conference tournaments to get an auto berth.

The South Central Region also has three automatic qualifiers - Colorado School of Mines (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference), Midwestern State (Lone Star), and Oklahoma Christian (Heartland).

In 2018, Lynn topped West Florida in head-to-head medal play to win the national championship.

The Tritons are coming off a tie for fourth place at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships at Black Horse in Seaside, California. Three players finished in the top 15 including junior Justin Woo (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS), who placed a career-best fourth.
