CHICO, Calif. - Hayden Hui and Elliot Bunyaviroch of the University of California San Diego men's golf team were recognized by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) as it announced its postseason award winners Monday. Hui was named to the All-CCAA First Team, while Bunyaviroch was tabbed the league's Freshman of the Year.

Hui, a junior Structural Engineering major, has been UC San Diego's top finisher in nine of 11 tournaments this season. He has recorded seven top 10 performances, including a season-best fourth at the Bay Area Invitational in late February. Most recently, Hui tied for eighth at the CCAA Championships. He holds a team-best 72.8 stroke average and his 67 in the second round of the Dixie State Fall Regional Preview in October was the lowest round by any Triton this season.

"Hayden has been a great team leader all year," said UC San Diego coach Fred Hanover. "He's played consistently well, has set a great example on and off the golf course, and is a teammate that everyone looks up to."

Hui, from Dublin, Calif., was a CCAA Honorable Mention selection in 2018.

Bunyaviroch has made an immediate impact in his first season with the Tritons. Over seven tournaments played, he has a 74.2 stroke average, the second-best on the squad. He owns four top 15 finishes with a career-best tie for 12th against a primarily Division I field at the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate. He tied for 13th at last week's CCAA Championships. Bunyaviroch is an Economics major from San Francisco.

"Elliot is mature beyond his young age," said Hanover. "He has the great quality of letting nothing bother him. He is just realizing his potential and we are all looking forward to his continued success in the years to come."

UC San Diego tied for fourth at the conference tournament and qualified for the upcoming NCAA South Central/West Regional. The top 10 teams from each of the two regions will be competing May 9-11 at The Ledges in St. George, Utah. At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with an advancing team move on to the NCAA Championships May 20-24 in West Virginia.
