Tritons Fourth, Vaughan Second After Opening Round in Hawai'i

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - The University of California San Diego men's golf team opened strong Monday at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate and is fourth of 16 schools while Ryan Vaughan sits in second place after one round. The University of Hawai'i Hilo is hosting the tournament on Waikoloa's Kings' Course on the leeward side of the Big Island.

UC San Diego is 8 over par after totaling a 296 on the par 72, 7,074 yard course.

Playing in his first tournament of the season, Vaughan shot a 3-under 69, the best of his career and his first sub 70 round as a Triton. The junior's outing featured an eagle, three birdies, 12 pars, and two bogeys. He leads all players in par 5 scoring (-4).

Senior Hayden Hui is also in the top 15 after carding a 74 (+2), good for a tie for 13th.

With no teams under par, Sonoma State is atop the leaderboard with a 1-over 289. 

Devin Gregg of Sonoma State is leading the 87 player field with a 4-under 68, just one stroke in front of Vaughan.

The second round gets underway Tuesday with a 10 a.m. (PT) shotgun start. The third and final round will tee off at the same time Wednesday. Action can be followed with live scoring.
