LA JOLLA, Calif. - Three University of California San Diego student-athletes have received Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 At-Large First Team honors, the association recently announced.
Senior swimming and diving standout Trevor Jackson and men's tennis seniors Eric Tseng and Justin Zhang each received the accolade, which is awarded to the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance both during competition and in the classroom.
Jackson (Ramona/Ramona HS), a chemical engineering major with a 3.71 grade-point-average, received Men's Diver of the Meet honors at the 2018 Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) Championships. The senior swept both the one- and three-meter diving competitions en route to lifting the Tritons to a 10th consecutive team title. A two-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships, Jackson also earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honorable mention and PCSC All-Academic First Team honors as a junior in 2016.
Tseng, who has earned academic all-district 8 honors for the second consecutive year, has a 3.88 GPA in cognitive science-human computer interaction. The Irvine native was named team MVP as well as academic captain, posting a 10-7 record in singles action this season on the No. 1-court, and was ranked as high as high as No. 21 in the nation. In addition, Tseng earned three victories over ranked opponents and partnered up with Zhang in doubles play to go 14-5 overall with 12 victories coming on the No. 2-court.
It is the third straight season Zhang has received the academic all-district 8 accolades, as the senior has a 3.88 GPA in human biology. The team captain, Zhang was named Most Inspirational Player by the Tritons, as the Irvine native went 9-8 in singles play with all nine victories coming on the No. 2-court. Zhang was ranked as high as No. 39 in the nation in singles action, and also received Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year honors in men's tennis by the publication Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
