25th Annual Golf Fundraiser for Triton Athletics Scholarship Fund a Success
LA JOLLA, Calif.- The University of California San Diego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosted its 25th annual fundraiser for the Triton Athletics Scholarship Fund on April 22 at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe. UC San Diego’s partners were invited to participate in a fun outing that included a golf scramble, silent auction, raffle, dinner, and more.
The UC San Diego Athletics Department partners put together teams of four to participate in the golf scramble, with 136 total golfers competing. Among the partners who took part were platinum sponsor Turner Construction and gold sponsor Hensel-Phelps. It was the Cox Communications team that came out on top, as it shot a 53, which was 19 under par. Through the golf scramble alone, UC San Diego raised over $60,000 for the Triton Athletics Scholarship Fund.
Many of the golfers also took part in the Miracle Putt, as they simultaneously putted to the same hole 50 feet away. Erwin Milan, who is the Associate Director of Operations/Facilities for the Rady School of Management, was victorious.
The silent auction was another highlight of the event. Prizes included opportunities such as a training session with the men’s soccer, tennis, or baseball team, a dinner with Director of Athletics Earl Edwards and a coach, Golden State Warrior tickets, and the chance to be an “Honorary Padre” for a day. All proceeds benefitted the Triton Athletics Scholarship Fund.
In its 25th year, the event continued its success. UC San Diego Athletics Senior Associate AD for Corporate Sponsorships and Development Tod Bannister appreciated the participation of the Tritons' partners.
"The UC San Diego Athletics Department is grateful to all those who supported this year's annual golf tournament," said Bannister. "The recipients of their generosity are the student-athletes who have the good fortune to compete and wear the Triton uniform."
