Fun, Freebies and Food: Triton Mania a Success in Newly-Renovated RIMAC Arena
LA JOLLA, Calif. – University of California San Diego students received an exciting welcome from the athletic department on Monday afternoon, taking part in Triton Mania. More than 1,700 students attended the festivities, which featured student-athlete introductions, performances, contests, prizes and more.
After student-athletes from each sport were introduced onstage by the emcee, students from the audience competed in a variety of competitions for prizes such as GoPros and iPad Pros. In between contests, the UC San Diego dance team, cheerleaders and pep band took to the stage and the arena floor to entertain the students.
Triton Mania, which was previously known as Triton Power Hour, is the first event held at the newly renovated RIMAC Arena. Students were able to experience firsthand the modernized arena, which features new seating, a 50-foot wide videoboard and scoreboard, an expanded skybox and more.
Following the festivities, students were treated to sandwiches provided by Board & Brew and pizza provided by UC San Diego Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH). Many students stayed nearby after receiving their food, as the Student Services Fair took place outside of the RIMAC facility on Ridgewalk.
At Triton Mania, students were encouraged to take part in this week’s Triton Trifecta. By attending selected games, students will receive free giveaways, and those who attend all three will be entered to win a big screen TV.
The first game of the week is on Tuesday, as women’s volleyball hosts Cal State LA at 7 p.m. for Anchorman Night. On Wednesday, the men’s water polo team hosts LMU at 6 p.m., with a free pizza tailgate taking place at 4:30 p.m. on the east lawn at Canyonview Aquatic Center. The final game of the trifecta happens Friday night, as men’s soccer hosts Sonoma State at 7 p.m., with the big screen TV winner being revealed at halftime.
