RIVERSIDE - The No. 9 UC San Diego men’s water polo team picked up a 12-11 win over California Baptist at the Lancer Aquatic Center to remain undefeated in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). The Lancers made a late push to send the game into overtime, but Jack Turner and the defense held up.

Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt and Skyler Munatones both cracked the all-time list tonight. Turnbow-Lindenstadt’s 173 career goals puts him in sole possession of tenth all time while Munatone’s 109 assists puts him in a tie for ninth.

The Lancers struck first from a penalty goal but Turnbow-Lindenstadt equalized with a rocket from the middle of the pool. Scores from Cooper Milton and Jack Ranj increased the Triton’s lead to 3-1. California Baptist had an opportunity to cut the Triton’s lead with a penalty shot but Turner blocked Logan Mena’s shot.

The Lancers offense rolled to open the second quarter and scored two goals within the first minute and a half. A minute later, Turner found Karlo Krmek for a score to put the Tritons back on top. Kaden Likins scored his first goa of the game with under two minutes to go. The Lancers cut the Tritons lead by one with 20 seconds left but Krmek tipped the ball in with seconds left to give UC San Diego a 6-4 lead at the end of the half.

The Tritons maintained a two-goal lead throughout most of the third quarter. A penalty goal from Turnbow-Lindenstadt put UC San Diego up 9-6 with a minute to go but the Lancers were able to utilize a penalty opportunity of their own to make it a two-point game.

Every time the Lancers would cut the Triton’s lead to one, the Tritons would have an answer. Likin’s third goal of the game brought the lead to 12-10 but the Lancers scored quickly with 34 seconds left. The Tritons burned the possession clock to give the Lancers four seconds left to score. Joseph Galgani looked to score but the Triton defense provided amble pressure and Galgani’s shot sailed high.

UC San Diego improves to 11-5 and 3-0 in the WWPA while CBU falls to 4-8 and 0-2 in the WWPA.

The Tritons will play their final tournament of the season tomorrow at the Gary Troyer Tournament. UC San Diego will play Whittier at 1:40 p.m. and Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. with both games at Pomona.
