Offense Overpowers Opponents in Day Two of Gary Troyer Tournament for Men's Water Polo

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 9 UC San Diego men’s water polo team shined in the final day of the Gary Troyer tournament and stretched their win streak to eight. The Tritons defeated Fordham 19-5 and Wagner 17-9. The point totals were the second and third most points scored in a game this season respectively. 


The offense was on full display against the Rams. The Tritons opened up the first quarter with seven goals, tied for the most scored in a quarter all season. 

The defense provided the Rams with few opportunities to score and held them to a .139 shooting percentage. The Tritons had 11 steals including a career high three from Connor McManigal.

Nine different players found the back of the net for UC San Diego. Myles Martinez led with a career high four goals and Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt added a hat trick.


The Triton’s offense did not skip a beat against Wagner. Munatones led the charge with four goals and two assists. His two assists against Wagner put him in sole possession of eighth all-time in career assists.

Calder Hilde-Jones, McManigal and Cooper Milton each had hat tricks while Ty Matson chipped in three assists.

The man-down defense excelled against Wagner and held the Seahawks to 1-for-10 on powerplays. Bennett Kienast came in during the second half and made 10 saves.


UC San Diego will return to Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) action and face a rematch with Loyola Marymount on Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
