Tritons Welcome Santa Clara During Homecoming Weekend

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 10 UC San Diego men’s water polo team returns home after 10 straight games on the road. The Tritons host Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) foe Santa Clara Friday evening to kick-off homecoming weekend.

General admission tickets are $5 and will be sold one hour prior to the start of the game at Canyonview. A parking permit must be purchased when attending games on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Please be advised this weekend is homecoming and parking may be limited.

The Tritons claimed a 14-12 victory over LMU and avenged a loss from earlier in the season. The game was a close affair between the two teams until UC San Diego took a three-point lead late in the fourth quarter. Skyler Munatones had a goal and five assists while Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt and Calder Hilde-Jones each tallied three goals.

Santa Clara is 8-6 overall and is coming off a close loss to WWPA opponent Concordia Irvine. The Broncos will face Loyola Marymount a day before going up against UC San Diego. Shane Hughes and Mac Carey have been the offensive Catalysts for the team. Both players lead the team with 27 goals while Carey has a team high 33 assists.


UC San Diego has dominated the series and leads it 43-2. In the last meeting between the two teams in the 2019 season, the Tritons came up on top 13-8. The last time the Tritons lost to Santa Clara was during the 2013 season when UC San Diego dropped a 11-10 game in sudden death overtime.

The following day will be the annual Alumni Game. The Tritons will host their next game against Air Force on Friday, October 25.
