UC San Diego Swept at Chico State

CHICO, Calif. - For just the second time this season the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team was swept, falling in straight sets Friday night at Chico State. Scores were 25-21, 32-30 and 25-19.

UC San Diego dropped to 12-11 on the year and 9-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Chico State improved to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in conference play, retaining its first-place standing in the league's North Division.

Jessyca Beksa was the lone Triton to record a double-digit kill total, finishing with 10. Meagan Wright (Bonita/Bonita Vista HS) and Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) were just behind with nine, while Simone Froley added eight. Colla led the team defensively with 15 digs. Wright and Molly Dalziel each had 10 digs.

Olivia Mediano paced the Wildcats with a game-high 15 kills. Kim Wright put away 11 kills and Shannon Cotton had match-best 19 digs.

Chico State dominated on the attack, hitting .239 (48-16-134) to UC San Diego's .137 (40-22-131). The Wildcats put up a solid block as well, finishing with nine to the Tritons' three.

On the defensive side, UCSD held a 64 to 56 advantage in digs.

It was Chico's first victory against UC San Diego since the 2014 season.

Prior to tonight, UCSD and CSUC had already clinched berths in the CCAA Tournament, which will be held Nov. 17-19 at Cal State San Bernardino.

UC San Diego plays at Stanislaus State (10-14, 7-8) Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Warriors were defeated, 3-1, by Cal State San Marcos Friday.
