SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The season came to a close for the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team Thursday as the Tritons were defeated, 3-1, by Stanislaus State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament quarterfinal.

Scores were 25-21, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-22 from Coussoulis Arena on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino. UC San Diego (13-13) came in as the second seed out of the league's South Division, while Stanislaus State (14-14) is the No. 3 seed from the North.

UCSD struggled to find a rhythm early and was out-hit .255 to .171 in the opening set and .231 to .167 in the second. The Tritons went up from there and finished the match at .180 (48-18-167), while the Warriors posted a .192 (65-30-182) hitting percentage.

UC San Diego made seven service errors, but held an 11-8 advantage in blocks. Stanislaus State led 89-75 in digs.

Senior outside hitter Meagan Wright (Bonita/Bonita Vista HS), playing in her final career match for the Tritons, recorded a double-double with a team-high 14 kills to go along with 12 digs. It was her 18th double of the season.

Freshman outside Jessyca Beksa totaled 10 kills, while freshman libero Lindsey Chun led UCSD defensively with 19 digs. Junior middle blocker Rebecca Seaberry came away with six blocks.

Four Warriors finished with 10 or more kills including Taylor Massengale (match-high 18), Daryan Gruetzmacher (14), Jocelyn Cervantes (12) and Blair Ehrlich (10). Ehrlich led all players with 26 digs.

Stanislaus led the entire first set after getting out to a 6-1 lead.

It was much of the same in the second set, with the Warriors taking an early 3-0 advantage. UC San Diego tied it at 5-5, but Stanislaus State followed with a four-point run and held a lead the rest of the way.

The Tritons led for the first half of set three. A three-point run by the Warriors tied it at 12-12, but UCSD scored the next two points and held its lead until the end.

The fourth set was by far the most competitive with 12 tie scores and six lead changes. The Warriors led all the way up to 11-11 when a Beksa ace evened it. It was back-and-forth up to 22-22. Stanislaus then closed it out with three consecutive points on a Massengale kill, a Daryan Heathcott kill and a Massengale service ace.

The teams met just once during the regular season with the Warriors sweeping the Tritons in Turlock on Nov. 5.

Stanislaus State will now take on Chico State in a semifinal Friday.
