LA JOLLA, Calif. - Using a season-high .360 attack percentage, the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 victory against Cal State Monterey Bay Friday night at RIMAC Arena. Scores of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match were 21-25, 25-18, 25-14, and 25-12.

UC San Diego improved to 16-5 overall and 10-3 in the CCAA, tied with Cal State San Bernardino for first place in the conference. Suffering its fourth-consecutive loss, Monterey Bay dropped to 11-10 on the season and 5-8 in league action.

The Tritons put down 64 kills with a mere 15 errors in 136 attack attempts. Their .360 hitting percentage was the team's highest since swinging .369 against Stanislaus State on Oct. 24, 2015.

UCSD started out relatively slow, hitting .235 (13-5-34) in the first set and .242 (12-4-33) in the second. However, the Tritons cranked it up several notches from there, improving to an impressive .500 (18-3-30) in set three and closing out the night with a .462 (21-3-39) clip in the fourth stanza.

UC San Diego was also superior on the defensive end, holding a 69-53 advantage in digs. The Tritons floored nine service aces and won the blocking battle as well, 7-1. They sided-out at 64 percent compared to CSUMB's 46 percent.

On the other side of the net, the Otters hit .153 with just 39 kills. They committed 18 errors in 137 attacks.

Individually, middle blocker Micah Hammond set new career-highs with 23 points, 19 kills, and six blocks (two solos) for the Tritons. She hit .607 (19-2-28) on the night.

Outside hitter Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) posted match-highs with 21 kills and 23 digs for her 16th double-double of the season. She hit .405 with six errors in 37 attacks.

Three Tritons had multiple aces including setter Marie Paris with three and outside Jessyca Beksa and libero Alyson Penrose with two apiece. Beksa also added eight kills and Penrose had 14 digs.

The match had only six tie scores and four lead changes. UC San Diego never trailed in the fourth set.

Friday's win was the 150th for eighth-year head coach Ricci Luyties, who is now 150-74 (.670) during his tenure at UCSD. He carries a 110-50 (.688) record in CCAA matches.

UCSD continued its dominance against Cal State Monterey Bay, improving to 24-2 in the all-time series. The Tritons have won 11 straight meetings between the two squads, with the Otters last victory coming in 2011.

UC San Diego hosts its final regular season home match Saturday as it entertains league opponent Cal State East Bay (13-9, 6-7) at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night with Colla, Rachel Linden, and Rebecca Seaberry being honored prior to the start of the contest. UCSD students are admitted free of charge.
