SEASIDE, Calif. - The University of California San Diego women's volleyball team was swept at league opponent Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night. Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-19, and 25-22.

UC San Diego, which has lost its last four contests, fell to 5-8 overall and 1-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Winner of four straight, Cal State Monterey Bay is 10-6 and 5-4.

The Tritons hit just north of .200, coming in at .202 with 37 kills and 13 errors in 119 attacks. The Otters were much better offensively, hitting .302 with 47 kills and just nine errors in 126 attempts. In addition, they sided out 64 percent of the time compared to 45 percent for UC San Diego. The home team was also solid from the service line, dropping in eight aces.

For just the second time in 13 matches, the Tritons were out-blocked as CSUMB held a 5-4 advantage.

"We had a hard time running any kind of offense because of our passing struggles," said UC San Diego head coach Ricci Luyties. "It's a difficult match when the first contact put you in scramble mode and that's how it was all night. We made a couple good point runs but could never sustain that momentum."

Middle blocker Jessica Rieble was impressive on the attack, hitting .625 after collecting 10 kills and committing zero errors in 16 swings. Outside hitter Cindy Tran was also effective, hitting .381 (9-1-21).

Kayla Evans had three aces and Susanna Limb totaled a match-high 16 digs for the Tritons.

Jenna Tobin led the Otters with a match-high 14 kills to go along with a team-best 14 digs. Anela Visesio and Chandler McKean each produced 11 kills

It was just the third time that UC San Diego had fallen to Cal State Monterey Bay in 27 meetings. The last occurrence came in October of 2011.

The Tritons return to La Jolla for a busy week at RIMAC Arena as they host three conference matches; Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 2, second-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 5, and 25th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 6.
