UC San Diego Downs Concordia Irvine, Moves to 3-0 at Showcase

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego women's volleyball team defeated Concordia University Irvine in four sets Friday night to improve to 3-0 as host of the DII West Region Volleyball Showcase. Scores were 29-27, 25-19, 19-25, and 25-23 at RIMAC Arena.

Senior Jessica Rieble led all players with 16 points on 10 kills and nine blocks, three of those solos. She hit .350 with three errors in 20 attack attempts. Senior Sydney Tekstra was just behind with 15.5 points, finishing with 12 kills, two service aces, and three block assists. Claudia Mathews, another senior, had 10 kills and swung at .562, while freshman Josie Collier and junior Gina Cortesi each had nine kills.

Four Tritons amassed at least 10 digs including Emily Hubbard (17), Susanna Limb (14), Cortesi (11), and Brie Severino (10). 

UC San Diego (5-2) finished with 12 blocks, a season-high. The team hit .240 (57-20-154) and held the Eagles to a .200 (55-23-160) attack percentage.

Riley Gill led Concordia with a match-best 14 kills. Julia DenBoer led all players defensively with 22 digs.

Thursday, the Tritons defeated Montana State Billings and Saint Martin's in straight sets.

Tourney action concludes Saturday as UC San Diego plays Academy of Art at 5 p.m.
