LA JOLLA, Calif. - Trinity Castaneda and Jessica Rieble combined for 21 kills and the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team hit .311 en route to sweeping league rival Chico State Friday night at RIMAC Arena. Scores of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match were 25-17, 25-16, and 26-24.

With the win, UC San Diego escalated its overall record to 12-6 while moving to 6-4 in the CCAA.

Castaneda was on fire, hitting .579 with 11 kills and no errors in 19 attack attempts. She also added two solo blocks at the net. Rieble, who came into the match ranked fifth nationally with her .407 hitting percentage, swung at .444 with 10 kills and two miscues in 18 attempts. The senior, who is now hitting .410 on the season, finished with three block assists as well.

Setter Isabela Dobra was instrumental in the victory, sparking several runs from the service line. She finished with 28 assists, four service aces, and a match high nine digs.

The Tritons had 39 kills and 11 errors in 90 attempts to hit over .300 for the fourth time this season. They held a 9-3 advantage in blocks and kept the Wildcats to a .112 (35-24-98) attack.

UC San Diego led for almost the entire first set and held a wire-to-wire lead in the second stanza. The Tritons got out to a 6-0 lead in set two, which started with a kill by Dobra. Dobra then served five straight points on an ace, a kill by Claudia Mathews which Dobra assisted on, and three Chico State attack errors, one due to a Castaneda block.

The third set began in an almost identical fashion as the second. UC San Diego raced out to a 6-0 lead with Dobra holding serve. She had a kill, another ace, and assisted on another Mathews kill as the Wildcats committed three attack errors once again. However, Chico State got right back in it. With the Tritons ahead 9-1, the Wildcats won nine of the next 11 points, making it 11-10 UC San Diego. With the home team in front 19-16, Chico won four consecutive points to take its first lead of the set. It went back and forth until the Wildcats gained set point at 24-23. The resilient Tritons scored the next three points, using a Chico State service error, a Dobra to Castaneda kill, and a match winning ace by none other than Dobra.

Chico State (10-7, 6-3) got nine kills from Kim Wright and eight apiece from Bekah Boyle and Makaela Keeve. Wright also dropped in three aces and added three blocks (one solo).

UC San Diego hosts Stanislaus State (11-5, 6-3) on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. The Warriors lost in four sets at Cal State San Marcos Friday, which halted their win streak at five. They are tied for first place with Chico State in the CCAA's North Division.

All fans in attendance Saturday will get a free UC San Diego rally towel (while supplies last).

All Triton home matches are broadcast live by ESPN3 and fans can also follow the action with live stats.
