LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior Lauren Boyer had a game-high five goals but it wasn't enough as the 18th-ranked University of California San Diego suffered a 13-10 defeat to No. 19 Hartwick, Friday evening at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
With the loss, UC San Diego falls to 14-13 on the season. The Hawks move to 15-7.
Sophomore Chanel Schilling added two goals while senior Alexis Wieseler, senior Lani Tittle and junior Kayla Fedler each tallied one. Sophomore Krista Schneider dished out three assists and Boyer grabbed four steals. In goal, freshman Reilly Gallagher made six saves and had one assist.
Hartwick scored first but the Tritons answered quickly with a powerplay goal from Fedler. The Hawks notched back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead. Boyer put one away on a six-on-five situation to cut the lead to one, however Hartwick scored with 1:10 showing in the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead.
Boyer scored three goals in the second frame including two on powerplay situations. The Hawks' Tori Wilson added two in the quarter as Hartwick took a one goal lead into the half.
Schilling found Wieseler for a goal to open up the second half. Hartwick scored two more before Tittle drilled one into the net to make it a 9-8 game heading into the final frame.
The Hawks scored four unanswered goals to open up the fourth frame to ultimately seal the win. Boyer and Schiling notched a goal apiece but it wasn't enough as UCSD suffered a three-goal defeat.
Zsofia Polak led Hartwick with three goals. Josette Santos had nine saves in goal.
The Tritons return to the pool to host No. 6 UC Irvine this Sunday, April 2, at 12 p.m.
