LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego women's water polo team had 12 student-athletes named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team.
The ACWPC recognized a total of 536 athletes including 140 at the outstanding level, 210 at the superior level and 186 at the excellent level.
Freshman utility Jessee Ransone was awarded outstanding-level marks for maintaining a cumulative GPA between 3.71 and 4.00. Ransone is an international studies – international business major in Sixth college.
Sophomore attacker Halley Atkinson, junior utility Kayla Fedler and senior center Lauren Boyer received superior marks for a cumulative GPA between 3.41 and 3.70. It is the fourth time Boyer has been placed on the ACWPC All-Academic team. Fedler made her third appearance on the team while Atkinson is a repeat honoree.
Senior Alexis Wieseler, sophomore Averi Westerman, sophomore Brenna Hatcher, senior Connie Wu, senior Lani Tittle, senior Rachel Emami, sophomore Riley Heiduk and sophomore Shelby Stender took home superior marks, having a cumulative GPA between 3.20 and 3.40. Wieseler is a three-time ACWPC All-Academic honoree while Tittle, Emami, Stender and Wu received the honor for the second year in a row.
The Tritons concluded the 2017 season with a 19-15 overall record and their fifth straight Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) title. UCSD also made its fifth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
