OAKLAND, Calif. — UC San Diego freshman Taylor Onstott (Carlsbad/Carlsbad HS) has been named Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
It’s the first-career honor for Onstott, and the first player of the week announced by the conference this season.
Onstott tallied eight goals, six assists and six steals over the weekend to lift the Tritons to victories over two ranked opponents and a seventh-place finish out of 16 teams at the Triton Invitational. The freshman also recorded two goals, one assist and three steals in a WWPA victory over Cal State East Bay, 17-7, on Feb. 9.
A native of Carlsbad, Onstott posted a hat trick with three goals, two assists and two steals in a thrilling overtime win against No. 12-ranked Indiana, 9-8. She followed it up with a goal and an assist in a 6-3 victory over No. 23 CSUN.
In addition, Onstott scored a goal with two assists and a steal in a 12-6 loss to No. 10 UC Davis, and also scored a goal in a 10-2 defeat to No. 4 UCLA.
On the season, Onstott has amassed a total of 15 goals, 11 assists and 19 steals.
No. 13 UC San Diego resumes action this weekend when the Tritons play host to No. 24 Cal Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 17, beginning at noon.
