Release: Wednesday 03/14/2018

OAKLAND — University of California San Diego freshman Grace Pevehouse has been named Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

It’s the first-career honor for Pevehouse and the Tritons’ second of the season after freshman teammate Taylor Onstott received the accolade on Feb. 14.

Pevehouse scored a total of eight goals in five games over the weekend, lifting the Tritons to a 4-1 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in San Diego State’s Aztec Invitational.

The freshman from Tustin, Calif., recorded a hat trick in two separate victories, scoring three goals in an 8-3 win against 19th-ranked CSUN on Saturday, as well as a 7-5 victory over 20th-ranked Harvard on Sunday.

Pevehouse also scored a goal in the Tritons’ dominant 15-4 win over WWPA foe Sonoma State on Friday in addition to Saturday’s 8-4 victory against Bucknell.

The freshman attacker ranks second on the team this season with 46 total points on 32 goals and 15 assists. Pevehouse has also tallied 22 steals and has drawn 13 exclusions.

No. 11 UC San Diego (17-10, 2-0 WWPA) returns to action on Sunday, March 25, when it plays host to Cal State Monterey Bay beginning at 12 p.m.
