Conference-Best 19 Tritons Earn WWPA All-Academic Honors
OAKLAND — The University of California San Diego women's water polo team had a conference-high 19 scholar-athletes earn Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
To be eligible for WWPA All-Academic honors, a player must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s games during the current season, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, be classified as a full-time student for all terms of attendance and have completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution.
A total of 95 student-athletes from the WWPA's nine member institutions received the accolade.
Triton award winners include senior Halley Atkinson, sophomore Sydney Boland, sophomore Bennett Bugelli, sophomore Ciara Franke, junior Reilly Gallagher, freshman Lizzie Hansen, senior Riley Heiduk, freshman Lyndsey Hightower, senior Carly Innis, sophomore Taylor Onstott, freshman Chloe Pena, sophomore Grace Pevehouse, junior Tori Rainone, junior Jessee Ransone, sophomore Tera Richardson, senior Chanel Schilling, senior Krista Schneider, senior Shelby Stender and senior Maddy Wieseler.
UC San Diego (22-14) is coming off its seventh-consecutive WWPA Championship en route to advancing to the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship Quarterfinals. The Tritons will compete in their first season as a member of the Big West Conference in the spring of 2020.
