UC San Diego Dominates Competition as it Hosts Team Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego fencing program dominated the competition as it hosted the Team Invitational Saturday at Main Gym on campus.

The UC San Diego women earned victories against Arizona State (23-4), Caltech (27-0), and UC Irvine (26-1). On the day, the saber squad posted a perfect 27-0 record. Foil went 26-1, while epee was 23-4.

On the men's side, UCSD was also victorious against Arizona State (26-1), Caltech (22-5), and UC Irvine (25-2). Overall, the Tritons went 26-1 in foil, 25-2 in saber, and 22-5 in epee.

UC San Diego had an oustanding win against Caltech in men's epee. Down 4-3 with two bouts to go, freshman Luke Sirand tied up the match with a victory. Classmate Ziad Khayat then followed with a win, giving the come-from-behind squad victory to the Tritons.

Next up, UC San Diego competes at the NCAA West Regional, hosted by Caltech in Pasadena on Saturday, March 10. At last year's regional, Taly Yukelson took first place in women's epee.
