Three Tritons Back From Trojan Diving Invitational
Release: Tuesday 11/14/2017

LOS ANGELES - Three University of California San Diego student-athletes competed at the Trojan Diving Invitational at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Southern California last Friday through Sunday, Nov. 10-12.

UC San Diego was the only NCAA Division II program participating, among the likes of host USC, UCLA, San Diego State, Fresno State, UNLV, Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield.

On Friday, Brooke Abrantes (San Diego/Santana HS) scored 189.65 points over her six dives to place 21st out of 26 in the three-meter springboard competition. Fellow junior Patty Sullivan was 24th (179.25). The top 18 advanced to finals. In the men's one-meter, senior Trevor Jackson (Ramona/Ramona HS) was seventh (219.90) out of 10 divers in prelims. He moved up to sixth (466.95) after six more attempts in finals.

In Saturday's women's one-meter event, Abrantes advanced to finals in 16th out of 24 with a six-dive preliminary score of 202.50. She climbed two spots to 14th (414.55) on the strength of her six additional dives in finals, outpointing two San Diego State and two Cal Poly competitors. Sullivan was 24th (148.30).

With the three Tritons not entered into the platform events, Jackson completed their involvement in men's three-meter on Sunday. He was fifth out of 10 after prelims with a score of 242.40, and held onto that position (490.50) after six final attempts.

"Our divers competed fiercely against some of the best collegiate divers in the nation," said first-year UC San Diego head diving coach Rafaella Suarez.

Suarez's pupils will not be in action this week, as the annual A3 Performance Invitational is a swimming-only competition. The women's divers will next participate in a double-dual meet against Division I foes San Diego State and Pepperdine at SDSU's Aztec Aquaplex on Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 2 p.m.
