LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 1/2 University of California San Diego women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams return to action this weekend, as the Tritons host California rivals Cal State East Bay, the women of CSU Bakersfield, and the women of LMU.

RECENT HISTORY

The Tritons are looking to continue their trend against familiar foes CSU Bakersfield and LMU. In 2016-17, the Tritons swept the pair in Bakersfield. The next season, UC San Diego again swept the two teams, this time at the Lions’ territory. This year, the Tritons look for another sweep of the two teams at their home pool.

Cal State East Bay is no stranger to the Tritons either, as the two teams were previously PCSC rivals. Last year, the Tritons competed against the Pioneers at the A3 Performance Invitational and PCSC Championships.

CANYONVIEW AQUATIC CENTER INFORMATION

Admission is free for all meets at Canyonview Aquatic Center, and parking is free on weekends as well. There is a parking lot located adjacent to the pools, and other parking is available throughout the campus. Be advised that there is construction taking place on campus this week.

MEET FORMAT

For the women, there will be two heats for each event, aside from the 1000 freestyle and relays. The second heat will be the faster heat, and there will be typical dual meet scoring (9-4-3-2-1) so both heats can score. For the men, there will be one heat for each event with typical dual meet scoring.

LAST TIME OUT

It was a quick turnaround for the Tritons, who just hosted Incarnate Word, San Jose State, and Wyoming yesterday. The Tritons had a strong effort across the board that earned them a sweep, with the women defeating Incarnate Word (143-97), San Jose State (155-143), and Wyoming (150-143), while the men beat Incarnate Word (152-129) and Wyoming (157.5-130.5). A full recap, results, and video interviews are available here.

WHAT’S NEXT

Next, the Tritons will hit the road for the weekend of Jan. 11-12. First, the Tritons will face UC Santa Barbara and the women of UCLA at 3 p.m. on Jan. 11 at UCLA, making up their canceled meet from earlier this season. Then, the Tritons will compete in a dual meet with MPSF foe Cal Poly. UC San Diego will face the Mustangs at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12.
