Tritons Garner 15 MPSF All-Academic Selections

UC San Diego

WOODLAND, Calif. – The University of California San Diego women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams have garnered 15 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic selections, with 10 from the women’s squad and five on the men’s side. The honorees were announced by the conference on Friday afternoon.

In order to qualify for an All-Academic award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher, be at least a sophomore athletically, have completed a full academic year at the institution prior to this season, and have competed in half or more of the institution’s competitions.

Grace Murphy led the way for the women with her 3.54 GPA, while Sawyer Farmer’s 3.75 GPA was tops for the men. Both achieved success in the pool as well as the classroom, as Murphy came away with three All-America accolades and Farmer earned an All-America honorable mention at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.

“I’m very proud of the effort of the program this year, from all perspectives,” said Head Coach David Marsh. “We raised the challenge by moving to Division I and the MPSF, and we were able to enjoy outstanding competition. When it comes to the classroom, we ask the athletes to excel. We challenge the athletes to prioritize their academics and yet be able to handle the rigors of athletic training and competition. These athletes that earned the academic honors are leaders who put in the extra work that it takes to excel in both the classroom and the pool. I’m especially proud that several on the list are upperclassmen who have improved each year and serve as role models to the younger student-athletes.”
