COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of California San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have both been tabbed Scholar All-America teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) for the 2019 winter quarter.

In order to qualify, a team must hold a GPA of 3.0 or above. The team GPA includes all student-athletes who competed during the season, as well as redshirts. UC San Diego is one of 480 schools that garnered CSCAA Scholar-All America honors, which is a new record.

UC San Diego’s women achieved a team GPA of 3.38, while the Triton men compiled a team GPA of 3.15. This is the women’s seventh-consecutive CSCAA honor for the winter quarter. Both squads raised their GPAs from the 2018 fall term, and the women were named a CSCAA Scholar All-America team for that period as well.

Head Coach David Marsh was excited that both teams garnered Scholar All-America honors, especially while competing at a top academic institution.

“I’m thrilled with the efforts of our team on an academic front, and I continue to be so impressed with their academic focus within our culture of athletic success,” said Marsh. “Our scholar-athletes are challenged in the UC San Diego classrooms at least as much as they are challenged in the pool and on the boards. Much of the success is due to their camaraderie and the way they encourage each other to achieve academic excellence.”

CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart praised Marsh’s efforts in fostering a culture of success in both academics and athletics.

"Coach Marsh has built a program that succeeds in one of the most challenging academic and athletic environments anywhere," said Earhart.

Next week, the CSCAA will reveal its individual Scholar All-Americans.
