*2010 NCAA Division II National Championships 'A' Qualifier*

As a Sophomore in 2008-09: Received All-Conference and All-American accolades during her sophomore season... at the NCAA Division II Championships, she finished fourth in the 200 backstroke at a school record time of 1:59.56 and also placed fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.76)... also at the championships, she was part of three relay teams that set new school records: the second-place 800 free relay team (7:23.54), the second-place 200 free relay team (1:32.16) and the third-place 400 free relay team (3:24.24)... her 400 free relay team placed fourth at the Nike Cup with a 3:27.00 mark.

As a Freshman in 2007-08: Won the title in the 100 back with a time of 56.87, finished second in the 50 free at 23.93, and won the 200 back in a time of 2:02.24, second-best in school history, at the PCSC Championships... also helped the 800 free relay team, 400 medley relay, and 400 free relay teams to victory with times of 7:34.57, 3:50.73, and 3:28.28, respectively, at the PCSC Championships... finished 15th in the 50 free at the NCAA Championships with a final time of 24.12... earned second-place finishes at the NCAA Championships with both the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay teams, helping the 400 medley relay squad to a new UCSD record with a time of 3:48.13... set a new UCSD record in the 100 back with a time of 56.53, good for fourth-place, and then helped the 800 free relay squad to another school record, with a second-place time of 7:29.18... received both All-Conference and All-American honors during her first season with the Tritons.

High School: A 2007 graduate of Northwood High School in Irvine, Calif... earned Newcomer of the Year award as a Freshman, setting three team records, qualifying for CIF, finishing second in the 200 free and 100 back... earned Scholastic All-American as a Sophomore while again qualifying for CIF... named Most Valuable Swimmer during Junior year... named Scholar Athlete of the Year and Irvine World News Athlete of the Year... Division I CIF Champion in the 100 free, Division II CIF Champion in the 100 and 200 free... member of Aquazot Swim Club... earned All-American status and took part in Junior Nationals and U.S. Open.

Personal: Born May 26, 1989... parents are Takestugu and Asako Shimura... has one older brother named Gonzo who competed for UC Irvine swimming... hopes to become a speech pathologist... a Human Developments major and Linguistics minor at Sixth College.
