SAN RAMON, Calif. - Sophomore Karina Carstens from the University of California San Diego women's cross country team was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 19-25. The announcement was made Tuesday by the league office. It is the second time in her career that Carstens has received the award, having won once in 2015.
Carstens led UC San Diego at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota, placing 16th out of 392 runners with a time of 23:32.6 for six kilometers. The Tritons scored 209 points for fifth out of 40 other teams, edging out No. 8 Western Washington (210) by a point.
