NEW ORLEANS - The University of California San Diego men’s and women’s cross country programs were both named among U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic teams. In addition, four individuals, two UC San Diego women and two men, earned All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA.

Karina Carstens and Kristin Semancsin were named All-Academic performers from the women’s squad. Terrence Luevano  and Samuel Blake were the representatives on the men’s side. Carstens and Luevano repeat as All-Academic, earning the award for the second time in their careers. Semancin and Blake are first-time honorees.

To qualify as USTFCCCA All-Academic, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or greater through the most recent quarter/semester, completed at least 12 credit hours in the term of cross country competition, and placed in the top 50 percent at the NCAA Championships or in the top 30 percent at NCAA regional championships.

A total of 404 women and 269 men comprised this season’s All-Academic lists.

In addition to the individual accolades, the UCSD men’s and women’s programs were both selected All-Academic as a team for their collective performances in the classroom. The Triton women had a cumulative GPA of 3.3, while the men posted a 3.04.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the squad must have had a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and have produced a team score at the regional championship.

Overall, 164 institutions were recognized as All-Academic.
