UCSD Set to Host California Collegiate Invitational

UC San Diego will host the 2017 California Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, April 1. The meet was formerly known as the Cal-Nevada Championships from 1993-2014. Competition will start with the men's hammer (UCSD Throwing Field), women's shot put and women's pole vault at 11 a.m. Action on the track gets underway at 12 p.m. with the women's 3000 steeplechase.

LIVE RESULTS
Live results will be provided for Saturday's meet through the free Finished Results app, compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. A live scoreboard is also available here.

ADMISSION
Track and field meets on North Campus are free for UCSD students to attend, with valid identification. General admission for Saturday's California Collegiate Invitational is $10. The fee is $5 for outside students with ID, seniors 65 and older, and youth. Children seven and under are free. Parking is free on the UCSD campus on weekends. The nearest recommended parking lot for track meets is the Hopkins Parking Structure adjacent to RIMAC Arena.

THE ROAD TO TAMPA
Senior Chrissi Carr became the first Triton to officially book her ticket to the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships in Tampa, Fla., in late May, with her automatic qualifier in the pole vault at the All-UC Challenge on March 4. Several of her teammates have nabbed provisional qualifying marks. They are:

CARR AND DOAN SET NEW SCHOOL RECORDS
Senior Chrissi Carr and junior Paul Doan have set two new school records so far in the 2017 season. Carr broke her own school record in the pole vault with a mark of 13'1.5" at the All-UC Challenge on March 3. She bettered her previous record set in 2016 of 12'6.25". Doan set a new school record in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 10.60 at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet on March 18. The program standard was previously shared by Doan (2016) and Keith Rose (2013) at 10.62.

FORRY AND COX SWEEP CCAA WEEKLY HONORS
Claudia Cox and Savanna Forry were named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 21-Feb. 27. In UC San Diego's first meet of the season, Forry and Cox collected three individual first-place finishes between them, helping the Tritons win the Mangrum Invitational with 77 points.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The UCSD men are ranked 23rd in the second installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national computer rankings, with the women 12th. For full rankings, click here.
