BRADENTON, Fla. - Senior Chrissi Carr of the University of California San Diego women's track and field team finished tied for sixth place in the women's pole vault on the final day of the 2017 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, Saturday at IMG Academy Stadium in Bradenton, Florida.

Carr earned the first All-America nod of her career after clearing a height of 12'10.75" on her first attempt in the fourth round of the pole vault. She tied for sixth place in the event with Wheeling Jesuit's Anna Massa. Carr passed on the opening height of 11'10.75" to advance directly into the second round. She cleared a height of 12'2.75" on her first attempt to advance to the third round. She joined 11 other vaulters in clearing 12'6.75" to advance to round four.  Carr made it over a height of 12'10.75 to move to the fifth round, joining nine other competitors. She failed to pass the next height 13'2.5" after three tries.

The Atascadero native's mark of 12'10.75" is the second-best in UC San Diego school history, just behind her school record height of 13'1.5" she set earlier this season.

"Today Chrissi withheld a long standing history of the Triton Track & Field athletes coming home with All-Americans," said head coach Darcy Ahner. "She placed 6th in what was the most difficult year to date in Division II to become an All-American in the pole vault with ten vaulters clearing an unprecedented 12'10.75" or more. It was truly an exciting and difficult battle! She competed with amazing poise and determination".

Missouri Southern's Emily Presley won the pole vault after clearing 13'2.5". She was awared the national title based on number of attempts.

Saturday's activity marked the end of the 2016-17 competition season for the UCSD men's and women's track and field teams.
