AZUSA, Calif. and TORRANCE, Calif. - UC San Diego redshirt junior Matt Bowen put his name in the record books with the program’s second-best all-time mark in the triple jump over the weekend, recording a leap of 51'2.75" at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific at Cougar Stadium.

Bowen was just one of several standout performances on Friday for the Tritons, who also sent one distance runner to the Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Relays on Thursday night.

“We had some major breakthroughs with some key people this week,” said UC San Diego men's head coach Tony Salerno. “A few even earned a place at nationals. Across the board, we have people stepping up at the right time with CCAA Championships just days away.”

Also at the Bryan Clay Invitational, senior Kristin Semancsin’s (San Diego/Valhalla HS) time of 4:32.97 in the 1500 meters is another provisional-qualifying mark for the San Diego native, while sophomore Camille Perkins also had a provisional qualifying time of 11:03.30 in the 3000 steeplechase.

Senior Meghan Fletcher continued her outstanding season, as her mark of 56.32 in the 400 ranks No. 6 all-time at UC San Diego.

Other NCAA provisional qualifying times included senior Luis Carson (Chula Vista/Bonita Vista HS) in the high jump (6'9"), junior Joseph Benrubi in the 3000 steeplechase (9:15.20), senior Nick Famolaro in the 800 (1:51.85) and sophomore Adam Winding in the 200 (21.84).

Senior Skylar Thiel was the lone Triton representative at the Mt. SAC Relays at El Camino College in Torrance. She finished the 10000 meters in a personal-record 36:41.69 for a provisional qualifying mark and the No. 4 all-time mark for UC San Diego.

The Tritons round out their regular-season schedule next weekend when they compete in UC Irvine’s Steve Scott Invitational on April 27-28.
