IRVINE, Calif. - In a final tune-up before the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships next week, redshirt junior Tais Marinho-Gomez and senior Joshua Makieve were standouts for the University of California San Diego track and field teams this weekend at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.
Marinho-Gomez posted her first NCAA provisional qualifying mark Saturday in the triple jump with a leap of 39'1.25", which put her in a tie for third overall and is No. 8 in school history. Makieve's sixth-place hammer throw of 173'6" on Friday, is the No. 10 all-time mark for the program.
Also on Saturday, fourth-year senior sprinter Paul Doan's (San Diego/St. Augustine HS) time in the 100-meter dash of 10.53, was his second-fastest ever and good for third.
"This weekend was a great tune-up meet to roll into CCAA Championships in top form for both the men and women," said UC San Diego women's head coach Darcy Ahner. "The highlight of the weekend was seeing (Marinho-Gomez) jump a lifetime best after three years of adversity returning from knee surgery."
The 2018 CCAA Championships run Thursday, May 3, through Saturday, May 5, in Turlock, with Stanislaus State serving as the host.
