Mary Reilly Sweeps United Soccer Coaches and CCAA Player of the Week Distinctions

KANSAS CITY, Mo., and SAN RAMON, Calif. - University of California San Diego senior striker Mary Reilly was announced Tuesday as the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's Player of the Week, and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 10-16.

The national award is the second for Reilly and third for UC San Diego. She was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), as the organization was previously known, on Nov. 10, 2015. Then-senior goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky was the first Triton recipient earlier that year, on Oct. 27. The association only began recognizing a weekly recipient at the Division II level, in 2013. Reilly is also now a two-time CCAA Player of the Week, with a prior selection as a sophomore, on Sept. 27, 2016.

Reilly simply dazzled in scoring five of No. 2 UC San Diego's eight goals during a perfect start to its CCAA title defense at home. The fourth-year Triton out of Chula Vista (Hilltop HS) hit for four in Friday night's 6-1 romp over Cal State Monterey Bay, notching a first-half hat trick over a span of 19:27 en route to matching the best single-game output of her college career. She previously scored four times as a freshman at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 2, 2015. All three first-half goals were right-footed blasts from the edges of the penalty area. Reilly's fourth from close range made it 5-1 in the 60th, as she was on the field for 50 minutes on the night.

Reilly then opened the scoring in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Cal State East Bay, in the 11th minute.

The haul for the week moved Reilly from a tie for 10th all-time in the program history book, to sole possession of seventh, now at 39 career goals. She leads the CCAA in shots for a fourth straight year, as well as in goals and points.

Reilly is UC San Diego's second weekly honoree of 2018, after sophomore winger Maddy Samilo (Rancho Bernardo/Rancho Bernardo HS) was named the season's first CCAA Player of the Week on Sept. 4 thanks to two game-winning goals.

UC San Diego (6-0-1, 2-0 CCAA) is back in home action this Saturday night, Sept. 22, hosting city and CCAA rival Cal State San Marcos (3-2-1, 2-0 CCAA) in one final non-conference match for the 2018 regular season. Kickoff at Triton Soccer Stadium on North Campus in La Jolla is set for 7 p.m. Parking and admission are free, or the game can be viewed in high definition on The Tritons and Cougars will contest their CCAA meeting in San Marcos on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The Tritons remained No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll, also released on Tuesday, and No. 1 in the West Region.
