Katie McGann was named UCSD's Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services in 2010 after serving as the department's Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services since the 2007-08 academic year.
McGann handles all aspects of the university’s compliance and student services programs, including eligibility, academics and financial aid for approximately 600 student-athletes across the department’s 23 intercollegiate teams. She is the department's primary contact for rules questions and interpretations and conducts the rules education program. McGann acts as the liaison with various campus entities, such as admissions, the registrar's office and college advising, while also working closely with the NCAA Eligibility Center. She runs several components of the Champs/Life Skills program including New Student-Athlete Orientation.
McGann also serves as the sport supervisor for the men’s and women’s fencing and men's and women's tennis programs.
McGann serves on numerous campus committees and is active on both a conference and national level. She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) and the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) and is a member of the Division II Men’s Tennis Regional Advisory Committee.
In April of 2014, McGann was the recipient of NACWAA's Judith M. Sweet Commitment Award. The honor is bestowed upon an athletics administrator below the senior-ranking level who is committed to providing high-level leadership and guidance within intercollegiate athletics.
Prior to coming to UC San Diego, McGann worked for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
McGann graduated Summa Cum Laude from UC San Diego in 2005 and was a four-year letterwinner and team captain in basketball. She was also an active member of Triton Athletes Council as a student-athlete.
