Three members of the No. 7 UC San Diego women's soccer team were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for District 8, it was announced Friday by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
, Anne Wethe
and Sarah McTigue
were honored for their skills on the field as well as in the classroom. All three players are seniors. They qualify to be a finalists for the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Team which will be annouced in three weeks.
Spaventa carries a 3.86 overall grade point average in Psychology. She plays one-third of a Triton defense that ranks first in NCAA Division II with a .211 goals against average. The Santa Barbara, Calif. native has started all but one of the Tritons' 87 matches over her four-year career.
Wethe, a midfielder from Los Alamitos, Calif., was named to the Academic All-District team with a 3.86 GPA in International Studies and Linguistics. She has tallied eight goals, 15 assists and five game-winners in 86 starts for the Tritons. On Monday, Wethe was named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association First Team for the third time in her career.
McTigue, also a three-time All-CCAA First Team honoree, was named to the Academic All-District Team due to her 3.53 GPA in Economics. The forward from Bellflower, Calif. leads the Tritons with seven goals this season and has been an offensive juggernaut over her four years at UCSD. For her career, McTigue has scored 27 times while accounting for 61 points.
UCSD (13-1-4, 12-1-3) earned the No. 1 overall seed for November 4-6's CCAA Championship Tournament. The Tritons face No. 4 Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. To watch live coverage of the match, click here
