LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego Athletics Department will hold its 12th annual blood drive on Wednesday, January 11 in the Green Room on the first floor of RIMAC.
The event is open to the general public and anyone from the UCSD community can donate blood. Donations will be taken from 7:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. To sign up for an appointment, log on to redcrossblood.org, click the blue "Enter a Sponsor Code" button and type in the code AthleticsDept in order to set a time to donate.
All presenting donors will receive a FREE Mini Bowl (good for chicken, beef, or half and half) with the option to upgrade to a regular bowl or plate for an additional charge. Also, participants will be able to enter into a regional "Pick a Trip" drawing. The winner of "Pick a Trip" will decide on a trip for two among five featured trips.
The department blood drive is coordinated with Triton Athletes' Council (TAC) and organized in conjunction with the American Red Cross. The athletics department's blood drive has been the Red Cross's number one single-day drive at UCSD for the past six years and UCSD was the top donating campus in California in 2010.
In 2011, a total of 163 individuals came out to RIMAC to donate. More than 85% of last year's donations came from Triton student-athletes and staff members.
