LA JOLLA, Calif. - A red-hot UC San Diego men's volleyball team won its fourth straight match Friday night, upsetting UCLA, 3-1, in front of 626 fans at RIMAC Arena.

Scores went 25-20, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-21 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) contest. UCSD, ranked 13th nationally, is now 7-16 overall and 5-13 in the MPSF, while No. 3 UCLA fell to 19-5 and 13-4.

The Tritons put forth solid efforts on both offense and defense. They out-hit the Bruins .248 to .186 and collected 52 kills to UCLA's 42. They also held a 10-dig advantage, totaling 42 scoops to the Bruins' 32. UCSD libero Chase Frishman accounted for 19 of the digs, a new career-high.

UCSD hit over .300 in sets one, two and four but swung at .029 in set three. UCLA's best attack came in set two as it hit .276. The Bruins hit .000 in the third frame, posting seven kills with seven errors in 28 swings.

Outside hitter Vaun Lennon had 12 kills, hit .333 and added a service ace, nine digs and a block for UC San Diego. Fellow outside Carl Eberts led all players with 16 kills and Johl Awerkamp finished with 13 kills, an ace, three digs and three blocks.

In the middle, sophomore Sebastian Brady hit .636 with eight kills and just one error in 11 attacks.

UCLA, which has lost three of its last four matches, was led by Weston Dunlap, who recorded 11 kills, hit .500 and had two digs and two blocks. Thomas Amberg had seven kills and six blocks as the Bruins held a 10-6 advantage in stuffs at the net.

Dating back to the 2008 season, the Tritons have been victorious in four of the last five matches against the Bruins at RIMAC Arena.

Not since the 1990 season have the Tritons won four consecutive matches. The first three in the string came on the road with victories at UC Santa Barbara on Mar. 9, Long Beach State on Mar. 15 and Cal State Northridge on Mar. 16.

UCSD will be looking to sweep the season series against UC Santa Barbara as the 15th-ranked Gauchos are in town Saturday for a 7 p.m. match at RIMAC Arena. The tilt will be covered by live video as well as live stats.
