The Tritons carded an opening round 325 and came back to shoot a 299 in Round 2 to wrap up the day at 48-over par, 624. UCSD trails leader Notre Dame de Namur by just a single stroke heading into the final round on Tuesday.

The Tritons' second round 299 was the lowest round of the day.

Herrmann was the catalyst for the Tritons, carding rounds of 79 and 74 on the difficult par-72, 7,322-yard Classic Club layout. At +9, 153, Herrmann is currently tied with Colorado Christian's Minkyu Jeon for second place on the individual leaderboard.

Herrmann and Jeon trail NDNU's Troy Davis by just one stroke after two rounds of play.

Fellow rookie Jay Lim also swung the clubs well for UCSD on Monday, carding rounds of 81 and 76 to end the day at +13, 157. His score was good enough for a share of 12th place overall. Lim has a two shot lead over teammate Lewis Simon, who currently stands in 19th place at +15, 159. Simon shot a second round 76 after firing an 83 in Round 1.

Sophomore Jacob Williams had the next-best day for UCSD, posting a two-round total of +16, 160 (87-73), while freshman Austin Shuxiao concluded the day at +22, 166 (82-84). Williams is currently tied for 27th place, while Shuxiao is 43rd.

Notre Dame de Namur carded rounds of 312 and 311 to grab the team lead at +47, 623. UCSD has one shot lead over third place UC-Colorado Springs as just three strokes separate the top three teams in the standings.

Cal State East Bay is in fourth place, fourth strokes back at 627 (315-312).

The third and final round of the Skyhawk Desert Shootout will get underway at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
