LOS ANGELES - Over half of the UC San Diego men's water polo team active 2011 roster was named to the Western Water Polo Association All-Academic Team, it was announced by the conference on Friday. All told, 85 student-athletes from the WWPA were honored for having a 3.0 GPA or higher while playing in at least 50-percent of their team's contests in the Fall.

The Tritons placed a conference-high 15 players on the 2011 WWPA All-Academic squad.

The honorees include: Chris Barton, William Brown, Lance Curtiss, Joe Dietrich, Brian Donohoe, David Higginson, Matt Kerchner, Danny Lorch, Matthew Michalko, David Morton, Graham Saber, Dane Sequeira, Josh Stiling, Luke Syka and Shane Troutman.

UCSD improved its numbers on the All-Academic by five players from the previous season. Brown, Curtiss, Donohoe, Saber, Sequeira and Stiling were six of the eight Tritons who were honored for their academic prowess in the 2010 campaign.

Players were required to be full-time students who completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his respective institution.
