LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the second consecutive year, the 18th-ranked UC San Diego women's soccer team has been selected to claim the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) South Division title as well as the league's tournament crown. The announcement was made Friday by the CCAA.

UCSD was tabbed to take home the South Division title after receiving seven first-place votes and 55 total points. Cal State L.A. was picked second (four first-place votes, 51 points) and Cal State San Bernardino came in third (one first-place vote, 36 points).

In the North Division, Cal State Stanislaus was ranked at the top of the list with five first-place votes and 53 points. Sonoma State was second (three first-place votes, 51 points) and Chico State was chosen third (four first-place votes, 49 points).

The Tritons garnered four of the coaches' votes to top the field at the 2012 CCAA Tournament. Cal State L.A. received three votes to win it, Cal State Stanislaus and Sonoma State each picked up two votes and Chico State earned a single vote.

UCSD is coming off a 12-1-3 CCAA season, good for first place in the South Division. The team made it to the regional qualifiers before getting knocked out by Chico State in a 1-0 loss.

The Tritons begin their 2012 campaign by hosting non-conference opponent Central Washington on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. The team then quickly enters CCAA regular season play when San Francisco State and Cal Poly Pomona visit Triton Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9.
